Books that Stick with You

Hi readers! I am excited to share the book I read ( and loved) over the summer called The Buried Giant.

The book is about an old couple who have lost their memories and they can't understand why. They go on a journey to find their son, although they can't remember why he left or where he went. Also, did I mention, the story takes place in England around 1000 A.D?  Don't worry, it's still really cool because there is magic and references to King Arthur. In the end, the couple learns the dark secret keeping them together which is also the reason why they can't remember anything. The metaphorical "Buried Giant" is anything in a relationship that couples bury deep down and never talk about. The wound becomes so deep that it eventually tears a couple apart. I connected to this idea because of things that have happened to me. I wonder if any of you can relate. There is also another side story in the book about a warrior sent to kill an evil dragon plaguing the land. One of his quotes was

“When it was too late for rescue, it was still early enough for revenge” (99).

I love that line because again, I have a personal connection to the concept of rescue and revenge. Sometimes I think having a deep personal connection with a story - the theme or characters - is what sucks you in. Anyone else feeling a deep connection to what is going on in their SSR book? What types of themes are you seeing already? Do you often read books with those themes because you have some connection to it?
